The Regional Executive School – East Africa, held from 22 to 26 September 2025 at Strathmore University Business School in Nairobi, brought together leading experts and professionals to advance capacity building in Africa’s energy transition. Organised by RES4Africa, the programme provided senior professionals from the East African electricity sector with specialised training on innovative technologies, market dynamics, and policy frameworks for sustainable electrification.

As part of the programme, RES4Africa introduced the Horizon Europe HAVEN project, which develops a hybrid energy storage solution combining high-energy batteries, high-power storage, and cognitive power electronics to support grid stability and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The project also integrates a modular digital twin to optimise system design and operations, ensuring safety, flexibility, and scalability.

By presenting HAVEN to an African audience, RES4Africa highlighted the project’s relevance to Africa’s growing need for reliable, flexible, and sustainable power systems. Hybrid energy storage technologies can provide critical support to the region’s electricity networks, enabling integration of renewable energy, reinforcing grid stability, and facilitating new services for communities and industries.

This contribution at the Executive School strengthens the dialogue between Europe and Africa on innovative solutions, supporting RES4Africa’s mission to foster cooperation and sustainable energy access across the continent.
