The HAVEN project was recently featured at the 2nd edition of the High-Level Managerial Training Course on Renewable Energy and the Energy Transition, held from 30 June to 10 July 2025 at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco. Organised by RES4Africa Foundation in partnership with UM6P and the Enel Foundation, the course brought together energy professionals, policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders from across Africa and Europe to explore critical aspects of renewable energy development and grid flexibility.
On 3 July, during the session titled “R&D in battery storage systems: results of BIG LEAP and HAVEN EU Horizon projects”, RES4Africa introduced the HAVEN project to an international audience. The presentation outlined the project’s mission to develop a smart, modular, and scalable Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS), combining high-energy and high-power storage technologies with cognitive power electronics and a digital twin platform for real-time optimisation and monitoring.
The session focused on :
- How energy storage contributes to the integration of variable renewable energy (VRE);
- The role of innovation in grid digitalisation and system flexibility;
- Preliminary outcomes from HAVEN’s ongoing R&D activities.
This presentation served as a key opportunity to raise awareness about HAVEN among stakeholders in Africa’s energy transition, reinforcing the project’s commitment to international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
About the Event :
The training programme offered a comprehensive agenda including technical sessions, policy discussions, site visits (such as a tour of the 281 MW Jbel Lahdid Wind Plant), and networking opportunities with experts from CESI, ENEL, IEA, Siemens Gamesa, SDA Bocconi, and others. Themes ranged from electrification and hydrogen technologies to critical materials and inclusive transition strategies.
Participation in this event supports HAVEN’s broader dissemination strategy and aligns with its goal to enhance the uptake of sustainable, flexible, and intelligent energy storage solutions globally.
