The HAVEN project participated in the 21st International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM25), held from 27–29 May 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal, hosted by ISEL / Polytechnic University of Lisbon. Organized annually since 2004, EEM is Europe’s premier forum for discussing energy modelling, market design, policies, and technological innovation, with recent editions emphasizing energy storage, renewables, and citizen engagement.
At EEM25, our partner IKERLAN presented the paper:
“Degradation-Conscious Dynamic EMS for a Hybrid Energy Storage System Deployed in a Cloud‑Edge Based Platform.”
This work introduces an innovative energy management system (EMS) for a dual-BESS architecture, using Remaining Useful Life (RUL) battery models to dynamically balance electricity cost savings and battery health. Implemented within a cloud-edge platform, the solution brings HAVEN’s hybrid storage concept from theory to practice.
Key Highlights:
- Integration of RUL-driven EMS into hybrid BESS
- Dual focus on economic and battery degradation objectives
- Real-world edge-cloud deployment
- Contribution to scalable hybrid energy storage solutions
EEM25 convened experts from academia, industry, and policy arenas, providing a fertile ground for sharing HAVEN’s progress and fostering new connections. The conference’s sessions included plenaries and technical tracks covering market frameworks, regulatory innovation, storage, and synthetic fuels, all aligned with HAVEN’s research themes.
